The United States and other Capitalist nations have a policy of self-interest but are sugar coated with sweet words to appease the public opinion.
With regards to Egypt, the United States has been pouring $1.5 billion each year for military aid and similar amount for economic aid. That amounts to almost $60 billion over the past 3 decades. The United States has been fully aware of imprisonment and torture of all political, religious voices in Egypt and the corruption at a systemic level.
