‘Nights in’ in Cairo

Posted on Updated on

Cairo the bustling city of Egypt. A city that never sleeps has many attractions open at almost every hour of the day and night. supermarkets, fast food chains, pharmacies and the like are open 24/7 with the option of delivery.

If you fancy a night in, in this energy consumed city, then I suggest ordering your groceries from your local supermarket such as ‘Metro’. If you do not fancy cooking then why not get a take away delivered to your door? You can order from Macdonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut or your local brands such as Quick and Mommen.

Once you have your food, either you have cooked it yourself or got it delivered then why not enjoy a nice programme or movie on tele. You have a lot to choose from. You get movies from MBC 2, 4,  Action and Fox movies or you might to watch something light and you can opt for fox series, mbc max and mtv arabia.

It doesn’t sound too bad does it? Well good so far until the delivery you ordered never arrives because either no one bothered to place your order and just forgot to do anything about it as soon as the phone conversation ended or the delivery guy just simply could not find your place and he gave up and went back but of course no one would tell you that and you’re still waiting after hours.

Lets assume your food or delivery arrives without problems ( I am sure it does happen but just not with us), as soon as you decide to watch something on tele, the likelihood of a repeat programme or movie is as many times you are bound to see a dog in the 5th settlement area in New Cairo (and trust me that likelihood is a lot; there are dogs in the 5th settlement on almost every corner).

Is it me? Am I the only one who feels like this? Is it possible to have a nice night in, in Cairo?

By the way if you want to plan your nights in and watch something which is not a repeat on tele, then you might want to look at the following websites for programme and movie schedules:

Enjoy 🙂

SO VERY TRUE! There really is NO such thing as ‘a night in’ when in Cairo. Have to be honest, the choice of viewing on Egyptian tv for English speakers is lame. Not sure how many times I watched and re-watched Lethal Weapon 3 and Under Siege last Summer.

Haven’t tried ordering food, but your story adds to a long list of dissatisfied customers. The home delivery service in Amman is amazing btw! (as I’m sure you know).

‘Cairo’ and ‘night in’ just aren’t words that one can marry!

I absolutely loved my Cairo experience. My suggestion, if you’re looking for things to do without leaving your house, join Couch Surfing and host some travellers, or simply invite them over for a dinner or a movie.

Ivan i loved my experience as a visitor also but living in a place and just visiting a place are two different things. Love the Couch Surfing site. Thanks for the heads up. Have a good day and please keep visiting.

Oh thanks for the links, really needed that and they always advertise that they have the MBC schedule at pizza hut or dominoes pizza but I never go there to get that.
