White Amman

Posted on Updated on

It snowed extremely heavy about a week and a half ago in Amman. The first day of snow was on the 30th of Jan it was very heavy. Most people were stuck home. Few days later came Friday. Friday in Jordan is normally seen as a family day. On the 1st of Feb, that Friday was an extra special day for everyone. Snow had began to settle and this had changed the whole atmosphere and feel of Amman. Families were out making snowmen; parents were snow fighting with their siblings and off springs. It was such a fantastic sight to see, which I am not accustomed to in the UK. The atmosphere was warm yet the temperature was cold.Below are some examples of what was going on in Amman.

snow is good for jordan. other than the fact that we got a 2 day break from school. ;P
esp. since the country seriously lack water..
so even though when the snow melted, it was wet everywhere…it was definitely good for jordanian farms.

M.K I agree that Jordan is in serious need of water but unfortunately the problem here is not just related to the climate but politics plays a huge part in the development of Jordan. For example Israel currently uses as much as 90% or more of the stream water from the upper Jordan River. Jordan’s water problems have worsened by Israel’s actions to deny it the right to develop fully the water resources of the Jordan River within its borders.
